When Are Trenchless Sewer Pipeline Repair Services Recommended In Detroit?

Trenchless sewer line repairs are conducted when our Mr. Rooter Plumbing technicians identify any of the following problems in your sewer system:

  • Pipeline erosion
  • Tree roots
  • Cracks and leaks
  • Offset joints

These problems are detected through inspection services that utilize high-quality camera equipment that is small and easy to transport. The size and waterproof qualities of our cameras allow us to insert the devices into the pipes with ease.

The video footage recorded by the cameras is fed through a cable to the monitors that our technicians use to assess the condition of the pipes. While we look for visible symptoms of problems, we also take the time to diagnose the quality of the pipes themselves as well as the materials they are comprised of.

This is noteworthy because some pipeline materials, such as clay, will typically shatter from the pressure if hydro jetting equipment is used with the intention to clean out tree roots and clogs, meaning that our technicians will instead recommend robotic cutters as the more effective method for removing debris and preserving the pipes.

Our inspections improve the accuracy of our work and facilitate effective services that will produce long-lasting results.

How Sewer Repairs Are Done With Trenchless Technology In Michigan

Once we have diagnosed the problem and removed any obstructions that would inhibit our ability to effectively repair the drain line, we can move forward with our trenchless sewer repair services. In this process, we use trenchless technology and equipment to restore the pipes from the inside, rather than removing them through excessive, intrusive digging. This is known as pipe or sewer lining.

Our technicians insert a flexible, inflatable tube coated with epoxy resin into the pipe. Its deflated size allows us to navigate the tube into the proper position with a metal liner that needs two access points on each end to be set in place. Once the tube is positioned where the damaged portion of the pipe is, we inflate the liner with compressed air. This forces the tube to conform to the inside of the host pipe, perfectly matching its diameter.

The pressure and expansion allows the liquidized epoxy resin formula to fill in cracks and leaks while evenly coating the inside of the pipe. Once this is done, the curing and hardening process can begin. Usually requiring several hours to completely cure, the curing is activated by the ambient temperatures in the pipe, although in some cases, the curing process can be quickened with steam or water depending on what is needed.

With the hardening process completed, this allows the felt liner to completely adhere to the inside of the pipe and act as the new pipeline. With added protection form the host pipe, the epoxy-based pipe liner that we install is a seamless and durable material that promotes efficient wastewater flow and resists corrosion and tree root invasions.

With Mr. Rooter Plumbing, our team is fully trained and certified to recommend when our repair services will be the most effective solution depending on the situation and materials factored in. • Vitrified clay
  • Orangeburg
  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)

The Average Sewer Line Replacement Versus Repair Costs In Detroit

Traditional dig-and-replace methods are more costly than standard repair processes in the Detroit area. In large part, this is often due to the materials and equipment needed to perform traditional methods of repairs.

The rates vary based on the cost per foot, which refers to pipe lining each foot of the pipe and basing the costs off of that. The range for repairing pipes in this manner has a range of approximately $70-$130 per foot.

The rates also fluctuate depending on where people live as well:

Sewer Line Replacement Costs In Detroit

  • Average cost: $3,400
  • Low end cost: $800
  • High end cost: $6,000

Sewer Repair Costs In Detroit

  • Average cost: $2,500
  • Low end cost: $900
  • High end cost: $4,400

The costs, while comparable, are overall more affordable when repairing the sewer line versus having to replace it.

On top of that, the cost of trenchless sewer repairs is reduced because there is no need for our customers to budget for landscaping remediation costs or permits for large, heavy machinery to plow trenches on the property.
